My wife and I were looking for our perfect spot in Panama. We discovered Finca El Altozano, and booked our 6 month stay with David. He was a wealth of information, right from the beginning. He sent us all the info we needed to traverse customs, and find our way from Canada to this beautiful town in Volcan. The suite is clean and cozy. Full kitchen and bath with hot water in both, and pretty reliable wifi. If you’ve travelled to Panama before, you’ll know how unusual both of those things can be. It even has a fireplace! (Remember... you’re up into the mountains here. It can get a bit cooler at night... especially in the rainy season) Most days we didn’t use it... but my wife really enjoyed having a fire while we listened to a nearby storm, You are on a working farm, so don’t expect it to be the “Hilton”. It’s full of small town charm. On a beautiful piece of property. The farm hands are very kind, and more than willing to assist you. Anel even potted a palm tree for my wife to decorate at Christmas. David gave us a warm, safe place to land here in Panama. We will always be grateful that we found “the farm on the hill.”

Beautiful gardens and fantastic views. If you are looking for old Panama charm, this is the place for you. If you are looking for USA modern, this is definitely not the place for you. From the hustle from the traffic and people in town, this is a quiet, beautiful place to relax and unwind. The amenities are as described. there is cover from the carport to the unit so if it is raining you can stay dry and enjoy the garden views. This place is full of charm and ambiance..

My stay at Finca Altozano far exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for peace and quiet away from the rat race then this is the place you want to stay at. The house is located on a hillside well above the country road below so even though you are only a mile and a half from the center of town and everything it has to offer you feel as if you’re many miles removed. The efficiency apartment is well maintained and very comfortable for a single person or couple to enjoy a relaxing vacation. The owner David Fishlow is an excellent host. Since he’s lived in Volcan for over 2 decades he’s a wealth of information. He knows a lot of history of the area and Panama in general, many points of interest and can recommend things to see and do here. Example is the Friday Morning Market in town where local vendors and expats gather every week. David and I had many lengthy conversations during my stay here that I found interesting and informative. He is a go to source that can get you up to speed about Volcan in short order. If you are considering a stay in the highlands of western Panama and like what is described above then I highly recommend you consider El Altozano to hang your hat, you won’t be disappointed.

This apartment is exactly as shown. What you see is what you get. The owners accommodations is attached to your apartment which may not be known. David, the owner is great( so is his extended family!), he is a fountain of knowledge about the area and surroundings. The setting is very quiet and private, you would never know the neighbors are as close as they are. This is a perfect santuary for relaxing quiet time! You are on a working farm so there are the sounds of roosters crowing, cows mooing and dogs barking but this is all a tranquil background noise. Like every place there could always be things done to improve but when a problem did occur David attended to it right away! One thing to note is in Panama the power goes out sometimes, this is no fault of the owners this is just a Panama thing, when the power goes it is usually only for a few minutes. However, you can still continue on with cooking and having a hot shower, so not much is lost by the delay. This place is not far from town you could walk if you wanted to. David also has a large variety of plants and trees to view. Overall our experience staying with David was very positive and we definitely recommend El Altozano for a relaxing get away!
