3 bed, 2.5 bath Waterside Retreat - sleeps 6-8
Welcome to River House, our private waterside retreat set in 5 acres with panoramic views of and private access to the scenic West River. Sleeps 6-8; 1,700 sq.ft (158 sq.m), 3 bedroom 2.5 bathroom house.
River House is situated at the end of West River Drive, Durham, Pictou County, and set within a waterfrontage totalling 700 feet.
The property is approached by a sweeping 400’ private drive and features unencumbered views and access to the West River.
With over 1700 square feet, and the main living space being largely open plan, this gracious home features vaulted ceilings throughout, three sets of double sliding doors facing the West River and a 14’x16’ custom built sun room off the dining area accessed via sliding doors. There is also a 14'x30' deck overlooking the river to enjoy unencumbered views.
River House is the perfect spot to relax and unwind, yet only a short drive to all the Pictou County towns – approximately 10 minutes to Pictou, 15 minutes to New Glasgow, Stellarton, Westville and Trenton and all of their neighbouring communities.
3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, so perfect for families who wish to spend some time exploring the beautiful Northumberland Shore, but also close enough to access Cape Breton, Halifax, and of course, Prince Edward Island. Waterside and Caribou are two of our favourite beaches/provincial parks and they are both less than a 15 minute drive away.
Also in the neighbouring towns are many shops and amenities, including theatre, cinema, many restaurants, coffee shops, various grocery stores and many large and independent shops.
The house sleeps up to 8 in total. Sleeps 2 on 1 king sized bed, 2 on a queen sized bed, 2 on a set of bunkbeds. An additional double airbed (or two singles) is available, for a total of 8 people. There is also a travel cot/playpen and highchair available for little ones. Has 3 bathrooms (2 with bath/showers and 1 W/C).
From the front door, there is a spacious hallway area leading into all the ground floor living areas, including a large living room with sliding doors leading to a 16’x34’ deck providing almost level walk-out access from the living room and master bedroom and overlooking the beautiful West River,
In the living room, there is a large TV, large sofa and two big chairs, and 2 additional chairs that can be pulled over if required.
The front entry also leads into an open plan kitchen and dining area, all facing out onto the West River.
The kitchen features stainless steel appliances and a large kitchen island seating 4-6 comfortably. The stove has 5 burners with a built-in microwave above and there is a kettle, toaster and blender available. The kitchen is fully stocked to make and serve even the most elaborate of meals with lots of glasses, crockery, cooking utensils and serving ware.
The kitchen is open-plan to the dining area which seats 6, but more chairs are available if required. From here, there is almost level access into the lovely river-facing ‘sun room’ – screened in but with panoramic views. Perfect for early morning coffee, lazy lunches, cocktails or atmospheric dinners. There is lots of seating for entertaining and a dining set seating 6 in the sun room. More chairs are available if required.
Also on the ground floor is a side door leading into the guest bathroom with toilet and sink, and washer and vented tumble dryer.
Bedrooms & bathrooms
Three bedrooms – large master with double closet and a king-sized bed with memory foam. There is an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower.
There are 2 further double bedrooms – one with a queen-sized bed and double desk/table with chairs, and another with a set of bunk beds.
Any of the bedrooms could accommodate a travel cot/playpen for little ones.
All the bedrooms have hanging and drawer space.
The ‘family’ bathroom has a bathtub with shower.
The utility area has a washer, vented tumble dryer, drying rail, vacuum, mop/bucket and the basic cleaning supplies you may need.
There is wi-fi and also a Roku 2 media streaming player which gives you access via the internet to a variety of channels, movies and music. There is also a radio and CD player in the kitchen.
There is ample room to park many vehicles in the front driveway.
Towels and linens are included. For stays of 2 or more weeks, interim/additional cleaning can be arranged at a cost of approximately $95.
