We stayed at Villa Paraiso in late Dec. 2014 for seven nights and enjoyed the warm hospitality of the Cotrell family and their lovely home on the beach. Every day, we rode the bikes provided to Bocas (short ride), swam in the ocean, and took advantage of the laid-back vibe of the area. If you are looking for a vacation home very close to a nightlife setting - then this is not the place for you. But, if you are looking for a comfortable vacation home on the beach and seeking solitude and nature, then this might be the place for you. The Cotrell family is very welcoming and helpful with advice, logistics, planning sightseeing adventures.

Stayed at Villa Paraiso for 3 nights and I couldn't recommend it anymore. The Cottrell's looked after us great, and supplied us with everything we may have needed for our stay in Bocas Del Toro - with kayaks, pool equipment, BBQ, a list of things to do in the area among many other things! They were very friendly and approachable and we felt very comfortable there. Shame we ever had to leave really :)

Villa Paraiso is a true gem. Our villa was immaculate and had a private lanai and pool that was perfect for daytime relaxing and nighttime dining. Being able to walk from our property to the ocean truly exemplifies how special this place is, and being a short bike ride from Bocas Town was great. The owners were perfect hosts, and made food that could rival nearly any restaurant on Isla Colon. There is not a single thing I would change about our experience there. We can't wait to come back to Bocas!!

We only got to stay a couple of days but it was absolutely amazing!!! We stayed in the suite. This place was definitely the cleanest place I have ever stayed in in Panama or the states. Angie is great to help you in anyway and super friendly!! We didn't get to try chef Wes's cooking but we did get to have Chris cater in dinner one night and it was the best food we have ever ordered. We ordered the Lobster and the yellow fin tuna. We really enjoyed taking the kayaks that are provided out one day. This is such a relaxing enjoyable place to come. The beach right outside your door is so nice and clean. If you come to Boca's, Villa Paraiso is definitely the place to stay. It exceeded our expectations!! Pictures honestly just don't do it justice.

We booked Las Casitas at Villa Paraiso for our honeymoon and it did not disappoint! It's such a beautiful place. The grounds are beautiful. The Villas themselves are not only safe and well built, but comfortable with loads of little touches that only an owner that cares about their property would think to add. We spent a lot of time just relaxing by the pool and on the beach, which was heavenly. Everyday, after whatever adventure we had, Las Casitas was like coming home. And the distance between your front door and the water - 25 feet. The pictures don't lie. We took a boat tour to see Dolphin Bay, snorkel at Coral Cay and relax on Isla Zapatillas. Las Casitas is perfectly positioned between Bocas town and Bluff Beach and Pakis Point. You get both convenience and quiet. The Cottrell Family went above and beyond to make sure our trip was memorable, from a delicious candlelit dinner on the dock, to home cooked breakfast every morning, and great advice about things to see and do. We absolutely loved our time in this little slice of paradise! Wonderful wonderful wonderful. Stop looking. Travelers, you found your perfect spot.

We loved staying at Villa Paraiso Villa Wiona for a week. We rented an ATV from Flying Pirates and visited the beaches, the jungle and the town many times. The Cottrell family were absolute perfect hosts, being available when needed, we had a delicious breakfast and dinner prepared by Wesley. It was wonderful to have the use of a local phone to call for cabs or other services. I would recommend this to anyone traveling to Bocas Del Toro to visit the area.

Very nice accommodation on the main island of Bocas del Toro archipelago. Nice spacious room in a beautiful villa with private pool. Only few steps from the beach (not the nicest beach because the river floating in a few meters further but you have enough other beaches in the area - and off course the pool!). The villa is located a bit outside town, which we liked. With the bikes you can easily get to town. A must is a bike ride to Playa Bluff. Drive all the way to the end of the road and you will find the nicest beach bar! Your effort will be rewarded! I would definitely recommend to stay here! The owners and their suns are also very nice!

My wife and I stayed at Villa Paraiso for 8 nights. This is by far the best place to stay in Bocas. The location is perfect - on the beach, quiet and only a 5 minute taxi ride to town which cost $1.50/person. You will not find a nicer lodging option in Bocas and the Cottrell family are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The house also comes with several complimentary perks like bicycles, snorkel gear, kayaks, and more. We highly recommend you rent a 4 wheeler from Flying Pirates (they have an exclusive to 1500 acres of jungle). We paid $200 for a 5 day rental and had a chance to see parts of the island you cannot see otherwise. Plenty of excellent dining options - be sure to check out the recommendations on TripAdvisor as that was our guide and you can't go wrong. Highly recommend!

Stayed with my husband and 3 year old son. Angie, Steve and their wonderful sons were incredible hosts. From my hundred e-mails prior to the trip to planning out day trips and getting tips on great local food, we could count on them to help us navigate and create an epic trip. I am going to include my full review on here and break it up into sections: Villa Parasio: From what we saw, this is THE PLACE to stay on Bocas. Incredibly clean, safe and the private pool that opens to the beach was perfect. The efficiency kitchen is just enough to cook some meals at home. 10 minute bike ride out of town. Easy to ride to Tony's market for all the essentials. The WI-Fi is not real functional so don't plan on trying to stream any movies while you are there. They provided us with a cell phone with their numbers and local cabs- very handy! Everything was there that we needed which was a blessing since our luggage limit on Natureair was 15 lbs per person. The even rented us a bike with a child seat on the back so we had a blast riding everywhere. Thank you for everything! We appreciate it and hope to be back in the future. Bocas Town This is a bustling town with lots of little eateries and places to catch water taxis. If you are not much of a traveler and are uncomfortable with minimal modernization, trash lined streets and early development- you will not be happy here. If you appreciate culture, adventure and little tourism you will love it! A little spainish goes a long way and while you can get away with english, you won't be as well received by the locals. There are "gringo" restaurants that are cleaner, english speaking and more expensive but the little local spots are amazing! Shout out to Tom's in town and El Drago (I think- not marked) on the way to Pakis Point and the Villa. Pakis point is heaven on earth as is bluff beach. We had a blast riding bikes all along this end of the island and finding great private spots to swim. Bluff beach does an Argentinian BBQ on Saturdays that is not to be missed! We took a water taxi out to Cayo Zapitillo which I highly suggest. Do not go to starfish beach- the beach is grungy and the boats coming in and out force the starfish further down the beach anyway. We would have liked to have gone to Bastimentos and done the chocolate tour but ran out of time. If I can answer any questions friends, please let me know- I know how much I rely on you all to help plan our trips!!!

My wife and I and our 2 year old daughter stayed here in January 2014, our third time staying at Villa Paraiso. this is a great place to stay, it is near town but far enough away that you don't hear the night clubs, it is always spotless, and Steve and Angie are great hosts. We would and will be back without hesitation, this is a great place to spend a week, well worth the money.

When you arrive in Almirante secure car parking is available for 5 USD per day. It takes around 20 minutes by boat taxi to Isla Colon. Than another 6 minutes by taxi (4-7 USD) to Wiona villa (in Big Creek, just after passing Playa Tortuga). A very well maintained place, constructed by the family (who live on the second floor). Private swimming pool and direct excess to the sea. Nice patio (with table tennis and gas grill). Room with comfortable queen bed, TV (with DVD & films), dining table and kitchen area (fridge, 2 pit cooker, coffee machine (no water cooker), cutlery, plates and pots/pans). Bathroom with shower (some what difficult system to get warm water). Good Internet. Complimentary two bikes are offered which are of good use to explore the area and to bike to town in about 10 minutes. We had some problems with the bikes but this was solved the next day. We enjoyed our days here. We paid 180 USD per night (without breakfast, some snacks/drinks were provided). We, however, would not recommend Bocas del Toro for the experienced travelers with appreciation for style/culture. This island group has still very much a hippie/backpack atmosphere. Many hostels, cheap shops and bars. Hardly any supermarkets where you can find decent/fresh vegetables. Surroundings are full of waste and houses are hardly maintained. People on the island are laid back but so much that they hardly want to serve you (for example; in the Post office we waited in the queue for 10 minutes and when it was our turn the lady closed the desk and went home).

We rented a suite in the house with the owners above us. The location is perfect. Close to town to ride a bike (15 min) or taxi $3 for 2 people. It is on the beach and you have access to a pool for your own use. The suite is very clean with sheets, towels, hair dryer, TV/movies, small kitchenette and a few snacks/drinks which is nice. Kayaks and bikes are available for use. You have access to a cellphone- some taxis, tour # and restaurants # programmed in. Even though you are a few km from town some restaurants will deliver. Wifi works perfectly. For the price, location etc there isn't a better place to stay.

Angie and Steve are great hosts. Their home is beautiful, especially the private pool. Extras were the best- cell phone, Internet, bikes, and even beer in the fridge. Note- unless you are in great shape do not try riding your bike to Playa Dragos- it is grueling (can I buy a second gear?) However- there s a beautiful beach at the end, along with a cold beer, and you can take a taxi home. We had a great time.

The service offered by Cotrells are five stars: the breakfast, each atmosphere is special, everithing so neat. if you want a place to relax ... Villa Paradise is the place. the only thing you will hear are the waves of the sea and the birds singing. Thank you famliy

We had a wonderful 5-night stay in the casitas. Our sons shared one casita (queen bed and twin) and we (my husband and I) had the other. In between the casitas is a beautiful pool that Steve kept in pristine condition. The owners live just a few steps away in another house (that also contains a room they rent out). The landscaping is beautiful - very lush with coconut, banana, and other beautiful trees and plants. Location -on the beach as pictured - great hearing the waves all night long -bike 5 minutes or so to Paki Point (good casual beach restaurant/bar) by bike - then follow sandy/gravel path another 15 minutes to Playa Bluff which has 2 more beach bars -in the other direction, bike 10 minutes into town for groceries, restaurants, etc -taxi typically charges $1.50/person ($6 total in our case) to ride into town -note: if you like your taxi driver from the airport, get his #. We found a great driver who we could call from anywhere and he'd be there in 5 minutes. Nice touches -warm treats that Steve and Angie brought us -cell phones (very easy to make local calls) -stocked fridge on arrival -5 gallon bottle of drinking water -kayaks (2) -bikes (4) Things to be aware of -there is no on-site laundry -I would be nervous with small kids who can not swim because of the pool

No surprises at Villa Paraiso, their web site shows, and tells you what your paying for, and that's what you get, plus some extras! The owners, Angie and Steve, and their sons, are great hosts. Always accommodating, and informative, but never felt like they were watching over us. We felt like we had our own private villa, complete with our own private pool! They even had some treats for us in our room to help get us started, which was a nice touch. The moderately sized room, with nice furnishings serves its purpose, but if your feeling cramped you have a huge outdoor area complete with couch, chairs, dining table, plenty of room. The pool is quite large, and spotless. Access to beach is right in front of you, and the grounds are beautiful, and well maintained. We used the complimentary bikes, kayaks, and snorkel gear. Having that equipment to use, at no extra charge was great. We did the "homemade breakfast" , 4 days out of our 7, and it was delicious, for $6.00 and it's well worth it. The location was perfect for us, as the actual town of Bocas is loud at night, and a tad on the dirty side, so being 5 minutes out of town by taxi, and 15 by bike was ok with us. Easy to flag a cab, or call one with cell phone provided. We loved our stay at Villa Paraiso, and Bocas del Toro. We would stay there again, and would highly recommend .

Las Casitas provide the perfect, private, luxurious place to unwind after exciting days of exploring the islands of Bocas Del Toro. The grounds are immaculate, the pool is absolutely stunning, and the beach!!! Oh... it is perfect. The owners, Steve and angie and their boys, responded to our every need. We loved having the bikes and kayaks for our use. Boy, did we use the bikes! We enjoyed making a few of our own meals in the outdoor kitchen. Internet service was great, cleanliness of facilities was beyond reproach, and the whole ambiance was distinguished and elegant. We toured other hotels and resorts while were in Bocas. Steve and angie clearly have the best property. I've read a recent review saying it isn't private or luxurious. I beg to differ. Yes, the island itself is not ready for prime time. That is part of the charm. Yes, you need to drink bottled water everywhere. Yes, you need to lock your casita and bikes. These are the little inconveniences of being in a developing country on a small island. If you can handle that (which we were happy to do), then the trade off is an amazing archipelago full of adventure with a very comfortable, safe, welcoming place to land at Las Casitas. We chose the area of Bocas Del Toro for our 20th wedding anniversary because we wanted an adventure to a "non-resort" Caribbean location that was safe. We wanted to immerse ourselves in a culture with the privacy and comforts of home at our rental. The possibilities for the islands of Bocas are endless... snorkeling, hiking, beachcombing, surfing, etc. The people are so polite and helpful! Remember, the town of Bocas is a developing area. It does not look like other "ready for prime time" tourists towns. However, Steve and angie's property is ahead of the rest of the town in providing a clean, luxurious home to land after your exciting days of exploring the beautiful islands. Las Casitas met and exceeded our expectations! Please feel free to message me if you have questions

A villa was originally defined as an upper-class country house. This is a small bachelor suite (not really a luxurious setting) on the ground floor with a family of 4 upstairs. Nice pool, lovely beach but not at all private. There is no potable water and after your first two mini-bottles of water you are expected to commute into town (some distance away) to procure your own water. World class surfing is a 20 minute (not 5) walk away. Another issue is needing to navigate three sets of locked gates and doors to enter and exit. The entire pool area is enclosed with iron bars (more what you might expect in an inner city)and there is no direct access from the pool to the beach. Not good value compared to other comparables.

Steve and Angie were the perfect hosts to a amazing location, you will not be disappointed, it's everything you've read and more. The room is beautifully decorated with all the amenities, large bathroom and eating area. Take advantage of the sitting area outside your room for spectacular views of the ocean while enjoying a meal. The pool is a treat on a hot aft. Make use of the kayaks and snorkelling gear, lots to see. The bikes came in handy for excursions and to get supplies from town, only minutes away. Looking forward to getting back.

I visited Villa Paraiso for my 3rd time! I have found the best place in Bocas and hope that you are fortunate enough to read this and decide to stay here too! Once you visit here you will realize this Villa really is Paradise. The Cottrells are so acommodating and helpful, but are never a bother. Bocas doesn't have many places on the beach and even less places with a pool. I have enjoyed having both of these wonderful amenities and the bikes too. I can get to town easily but don't have to deal with the noise. Don't pass this place over for something else you will regret it!

It looked exactly like the pictures they posted. So many other sites we noticed on the internet embellished on the accommodations but they were honest and exact on what we got.The atmosphere they described can only be captured upon being here sitting out on the covered porch looking at your own enticing private salt water pool and ocean listening to the nature sounds around you and the waves crashing on the beach. The place was cleaner than any hotel I've ever stayed at, the family was amazing, pleasant and informative and quick to respond to any question or concern you may have. Angie's breakfast was excellent and we even got a goodie treat we hadn't expected. This place is in a real good location. it is a fun short bike ride to bluff beach where there is fun things to do there and they are a longer bike ride but fun, relaxing and a good exercise ride to starfish beach or there is always the bus or taxi. and within walking distance to an ecological place of diversity by the Smithsonian institute. You are close enough to town to bike there in a few min. and yet you feel way out in the country isolated from the noise and hustle and bustle. they have lots of fun eateries of local food to try and boat tours to other exquisite really deserted islands. We missed the turtle laying season but I can't wait to come back to see that experience. This is a must stay place and by reading the logs of other guests in the guest book everyone has similar exciting stories to tell of there wonderful stay here. I wasn't disappointed.

Our honeymoon @ Villa Paraiso was absolutely amazing! The entire Cottrell Family are wonderfully perfect hosts. We highly recommend any breakfast by them... yum! We also loved all the treats and local grub we learned about and ate also massages @ Starfleet are incredibly relaxing. Dinner by Jess was likewise satisfying. All in all, this island town, is amazing and gorgeous and having Villa Paraiso to come home to at the end of an adventurous day or just to relax here by the beach/pool all day...was the cherry on the sundae. We cannot say enough good things about the Cottrell Family ... Thank you so much for making our honeymoon the best it could be! We will be back... Anniversasry trip! Thank you Steve and angie,we loved our time at Villa Paraiso! We thought it looked absolutely incredible online (great website!) and it exceeded our expectations in person, thanks to Steve and angie's kind hospitality. The villa is just outside of Bocas Town, maybe about 2km? It was an easy bike ride and also an easy taxi ride if it's dark or you don't feel like riding. We absolutely loved being a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of town but it was great being close enough to the action. The pool was even more beautiful in person, amazing tile work! It was so great having the beach and warm ocean just beyond the pool. Steve used to build luxury homes in the us, and you can tell he put loving touches into the craftmanship of the villa-beautiful wood cabinetry, granite counters, nicer bathroom than my bathroom at home! Steve and angie keep guest books filled with honest tips from past guests, everything from where to go to dinner, what guides to call, etc. The cell phone they give you to use while in Bocas is such a smart idea, it really made everything so easy. You will have to take taxis in Bocas (cheap though!) and the best taxi driver's numbers are programmed into the phone, along with the best guides and other important numbers. They have really put a lot of thought into what touches can make their guests more comfortable. The snacks and beverages in the fridge were awesome too! I could go on and on, there is so much to say! Go and enjoy Bocas now while it still feels like a bit of a secret! We loved it!

Our family loved staying at such a wonderful place. The hosts go above and beyond to make sure your stay is a wonderful memory, super helpful. Very clean, new and well mantained, they put alot of work into the place. There are endless possibilities of day excursions but be sure to take time to enjoy the fab property! You can even order breakfast from them served fresh & hot! The restaurant next door makes for an easy fix if you are tired and don't want to go into town. We did Starfish Beach, Nivida Bat Cave's Tour and The Oreba Chocolate Tour and loved it all! Still more to explore!!!

My fiance and I had a very romantic and adventurous stay at La Casitas in Bocas del Toro with Steve and angie. Their property is immaculate and right on the ocean. We got quite a few awesome sunrises during our week long stay. The pool right outside of our front door was a great spot to relax and cool down on the hot days. The bikes provided got us wherever we needed to go while providing a little exercise to work off the extra calories consumed at many of the local restaurants Steve and angie suggested. We had a great time and will definitely suggest Villa Paraiso to our friends and family.

I loved staying at Villa Paraiso. The room was clean and cutely decorated. We had cruiser bikes to use whenever we wanted, which we used almost every day to ride into town or up to Bluff beach. Angie and her family were extremely friendly, welcoming, and thoughtful. I loved falling asleep with the sound of waves crashing just a few feet away.

We just came back from two weeks at the Villa. It was really nice that we got picked up at the airport by Steve, and he helped us with our lost luggage. (Which was taxied to our door the next morning) The villa was very spacious with a kitchen and fridge. We didn't use the hot plates, but used the barbeque most nights. We used the bikes every day. We would bike most afternoons for lunch at different places on the island and other islands. Water taxi is cheap. Our favourite bike ride was up to Bluff Beach. Carolinas restaurant has a spectacular view. If you bike past this place another mile, you will find Bluff Beach Lodge restaurant. Order the Monkey Balls. They are delicious. We enjoyed the pool, even in the rain. The ping pong table was great when the weather wasn't great. The internet wasn't too strong, and only worked outside. We used our Blackberry at most restaurants with WiFi. We would recommend the Zip Lining tour. It was a lot of fun. Also, eat at Mantis. Make a reservation first. Get a garden tour from Wes. The boys were great with all their help. Our welcoming breakfast and all the treats were great! Thanks Cottrells.

We looked at a variety of different types of lodging for our 4 night stay in Bocas: Hotels; B&Bs; lodges; and Villa Paraiso, which TripAdvisor considers a vacation rental. No matter what you call it, it's amazing! Angie & Steve and their boys were excellent hosts--helpful, welcoming, and they brought us treats nearly every day. We stayed in one of the new cabinas and it was clean, comfy, and a great value for a a beachfront villa with your own pool. The location is perfect being close enough to town to walk it in a half hour/bike it in 15 min for great food and bars, and far enough away that it feels like a secluded paradise. I would stay here again in a second. Thanks, Angie and Steve!

We stayed at Villa Parasio for 2 weeks and were so impressed by the location,it really is right on the best beach of the island, the pool is private ( the first time we have had our own pool)and spotlessly clean as is the studio. We loved the huge terrace and listening to the sea lapping just a few feet away. The bikes were great fun and we used them everyday as it is mostly flat in this area we popped into town to the fabulous restaurants or cycled to our favourite La Carolina for lunch ,an amazing place with beautiful gardens and the best views of paradise. The water taxis were plentiful and great to visit the rest of the islands surrounding Bocas we snorkeled and swam, we were so lucky we eevn had a dolphin visit just 10ft from the villa!I must mention the botanical gardens just a short distance from the villa it is open twice a week and well worth the visit.Angie and Steve and their delightful sons were the perfect hosts so helpful and kind. They have just built 2 new cabanas which are next to the villa( although very private),perfect for a family or 2 couple we would highly recommend these too as they share their own pool and a great BBQ area. This is the place to stay if you want the best so don't bother looking elsewhere just read all their reviews they all agree with us.

My husband and I stayed in one of the new villas. We felt like we were on our honeymoon again! The view was so gorgeous. Waking up to the sound of the soft waves on the shore was truly relaxing. We absolutely loved the pool that was conveniently located a few steps outside our door. It was so refreshing and didn't have that heavy smell of chlorine like other resort pools, leaving your body smelling like bleach. The many palm trees around the villa made the swim feel so private like our own little secret place. The location was perfect for us. The villa was a few minutes away from the town where everything is. That part we particularly enjoyed because the town itself can get noisy sometimes, especially at night. The room was comfortable and provided everything you needed for your stay. We loved the fact that you could walk down the steps to the beach. It was like having a ocean for our backyard. The water at that particular beach was nice and calm but there was also another beach we liked called Bluff only a few minutes away by taxi. Steve and angie really made sure we felt at home and even if we asked a lot of questions they always were eager to help or give advice. We can't wait to go back, but next time for longer!

We rented two Villas for our family and our selves and were extremely disappointed for the experience received for money spent. We rented a three bedroom home in as nice a location with a much better service provided for half the price. The beach was comparable, the home and pool along with service was far superior to the Villa location. The web site said we would be picked up at airport. When we advised our time of arrival, we were advised that they didn't provide shuttle service anymore. When we got there we had to walk around with our luggage looking for someone to assist us as everything was locked up, We later learned this is the norm as there is a fear of theft in the area. It was like living in a cage for a week. We had difficulty contacting owners as they were often out enjoying the area with friends. We were advised by other renters that they had tried use the bicycles that were advertised to be included with the rental and they were under repair. We called one day and were advised that they would have to do some repairs on them before we could use. When we did recieve three of the four bikes we were to be provided, one had no brakes and all three were badly rusted and the chain kicked off on one of the bikes. None of the bikes looked like any repairs were done and one kept losing its chain. The Villas are a distance from town and it cost the five of us $10 to town and $10 back. A bad experience. Please don't believe some of the reviews. If we spent half the money, we would have expected what we got.

Whenever booking in advance there is always the question of "am I really going to get what I expect?". Well have no fear on this one. The beach is truly one of the only swimmable on the island. The villa is incredibly beautiful, and well built. The pool is such a wonderful bonus. The location is perfect, close to town but you would never know it if you never left. A+ on the amenities, the outdoor kitchen is awesome. The bathroom is luxurious and the bed is soo comfy. There is literally nothing I would add. We have stayed in boutique villas and paid 3x this amount for less. Steve,Angie and the kids are great hosts!!!

We stayed at the new villa's which are next door to the picture above, the rooms are cleaned, they have a mini fridge, microwave, tv (just for movies, they supply)a day bed, bed, and bathroom just shower. They will have the room cleaned twice a week if you need it towels etc.The beach is footsteps away not a wide beach but just nice, you lay in bed and the waves crushing into the shore will rock you to sleep, the pool is awesome,Angie & Steve will do anything to help you enjoy your stay their kids also are great and will help with anything tours, transport(taxi) idea's, they also have a garden and Wes will share. Taxi's are very easy the villa supplies you with a cell phone with taxi #, or just walk out on the street and wave one down, plenty of stores to purchase grocery to cook at the villa or eating in town is very reasonable our favorite was El Pescado, Guari Guari, all the tours at town are good to local island and beaches our favorite was Starfish but only go if it is sunny, rainy days find a snorkle tour, We totally enjoyed our stay at Villa Pariso we felt safe, comfortable and will wait the day to return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Paraiso. The home is beautiful, comfortable and perfectly located, just as described. Falling asleep to the sounds of surf but still being so close to Bocas Town was perfect. We used the kayaks, snorkel gear and bicycles on our daily outings. Our favorite activity was to bike toward Bluff Beach, exploring along the way. Every member of the Cottrell family was friendly and helpful during our stay. We highly recommend a stay in Bocas del Toro and there would be no better place but Villa Paraiso. Although we rated this location as excellent, we recommend an upgrade to the WiFi as it was not always reliable and an addition of cable TV. The description made it clear that there was no cable so we were prepared but think the addition would be well received.

For those travelers fortunate enough to find themselves lodging at the Villa Parasio, ,rest assured you have found the best accommodations Bocas Del Toro has to offer. Steve, Angie and their family provided us with everything we could have imagined and more. Their advice, assistance and hospitality will stay with you long after your visit comes to an end. Thanks for the wonderful week, Cottrells! A few tips for your stay. 1) Taxis are cheap and efficient. Most drivers are sure to keep you entertained. 2) We used Jampan Tours to visit Zapatillas Islands, and highly recommend the trip. 3) Take a taxi to Boca Del Drago, eat at Yarisori's and hike the beach pathway to Starfish, it's stunning! 4) Use the bikes provided by the Villa to visit Bluff Beach. Stop at La Coralinas to take in the views with excellent food and drinks. 5) Savor angie's first morning breakfast, because it will be the best one you have on Isla Colon! Thanks again guys! We hope to see you in the new Villa sometime soon!

Thanks so much for a wonderful time and really do hope we can come back some day. You have a beautiful place, but what really makes it outstanding is your warmth and hospitality as hosts. You strike a perfect balance between being available and helpful and giving privacy. We enjoyed visiting with you and think you would be super fun to have as friends, if we lived in the same place. If you ever venture to arizona look us up. We are only 1 hour from the Grand Canyon and would love to host you and show you our corner of the world. The villa is so comfortable. We enjoyed the native decorations and beautiful flower arrangements, and all the extras: phone, snacks, breakfast, brownies, cinnamon rolls, ect.. We wish you the best of luck with your business. My husband and I had a lovely time staying at this location- it was absolutely perfect! The Villa was located in the perfect spot in Bocas. It's close enough to the downtown area (which has all the restaurants, shopping, and tours), so getting a 10 minute taxi ride into the city is always very easy, yet it far away enough from town so it also had a very private, romantic atmosphere. Plus, you have access to your own pool and private beach so it does't get much better than that! Steve and angie were the perfect hosts. Their home was beautiful, they went above and beyond with helping us coordinate fun places to go, dinner reservations, and even tracked down a camera we managed to loose on a beach; yet they also gave us a lot of privacy so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Additionally, they provide their guest with an amazing list tips and tricks from past guest to make the most of your time there so don't bother taking the time to pre-plan your Bocas activities. This list was better than any Tripadvisor reviews we've seen :) If you're looking for the best place to stay in Bocas- choose this location. You will not be disappointed!

My wife and I stayed with our baby for 9 nights at Villa Parisio! We had a great time and the villa was well located for short hops to all the different activities and beaches. We tried surfing, went to 4-5 different beaches, went wakeboarding, and ate out .... alot! Anyway I digress... back to the villa. We manage a resort so privacy was what we wanted most! We got it with the living area and private use of the pool. There is a lot of out door living space and even though it was "rainy season" it mostly rained at night and we still saw a lot of sunshine! Thanks for the great stay! Cheers, Carlos, Isabelle and Maya P.S. If you do travel with a small child you will need to bring your own crib. We did without.

We had the time of our life at Villa Paraiso! We were so pampered by Steve and angie! Steve was at the airport to pick us up and show us around town. Then he took us to what I believe is the most beautiful home on the island, and we settled right in. The pool and the yard is gorgeous, (not to mention your own private beach!) and the inside is very clean and cozy. We loved that they had bicycles for us to use, which we rode to town every day. They also provided kayaks and snorkel gear, which we also took advantage of. They provided us with a cell phone with all the numbers we needed already progammed in, and for not much you can buy a phone card to make calls back home. We took advantage of the honeymoon package which I would totally reccommend. This includes some of angie's wonderful breakfasts, a lobster dinner prepared by Chef Chris by candelight on the lanai, a packed lunch made with love by angie, and two 75 min. massages that we both swear were the best ever. Also angie and Steve had made us a beautiful arrangement of flowers and snacks in the room when we arrived, and they stocked the fridge. Angie was also kind enough to make us a few late night sweet treats! Steve, Angie, and the boys were also very helpful in helping us plan our adventures around the islands. They have some good suggestions about what to do, and how to go about it. I really cannot put into words the beauty of this place, and the generosity of the hosts. It made for a truly incredible week in paradise! We fell even more in love with each other, and also fell in love with Bocas! Thanks so much Steve, Angie, and boys!!! We hope to see you again. Maybe our one year anniversary!

I am a Gringo married to a Panamanian from Santiago, Panama, a wonderful city in the middle of the Republic. For perspective, my wife is in her twenties and I am thirty... something. Thus, we are old enough to know better but young enough to still have a great time. Ok if you are reading this then you have already discovered two important facts: 1. The entire Cottrell family are the best hosts in Bocas; and you are very lucky to be their guests and 2. Reading the guest book(s) are/is the best way to have a great time in Bocas - as the tips are authentic and qualified by folks who know what they are talking about. Bottom line = (1) food = Guari Guari and Restaurante Yarisnori (Bocas del Drago) for a great seafood lunch. The owner at Yarisnori even knew my mother-in-law from years ago (small world). (2) tours = Jampan - The only way to Go! (3) travel = Taxi El Famoso Miguel at 6737-7043. Miguel is always on time and honest. Have fun! We will be back! March 7-13 Jim and Karen Cartlet We've had a lovely week at Villa Parasio. The weather has been perfect, no rain at all. We enjoyed Guari Guari restaurant twice- good! We biked over to La Coralina, had breakfast and then biked over to beautiful Bluff Beach. We took a water taxi to Bastimentos and walked up the hill. The Thai restaurant was closed for a couple of weeks so we ate at Roots. If you go up the hill be prepared, it's a long walk up and the last half is a dirt/mud path through the jungle. I wouldn't want to come back in the dark. We enjoyed eating tacos/enchiladas at Shelly's - great calamari at Buena Vista, good food at Lily's and Lemon Grass. Read the other book for other ideas of places to go. We read several books each. We enjoyed the porch and pool and just relaxing. Thanks angie and Steve for a great week!

This was our second stay at Villa Paraiso. We love the area, Bocas Del Toro is astonishingly beautiful, with tons of restaurants to enjoy, and plenty of activities from surfing and fishing to my personal favorite, drinking to excess while lying on a beach (Beers sell in the local stores for 75 cents - the place is like K-Mart for liquor!). There are fabulous sights to see nearby, like the Butterfly Garden, Dolphin Bay, and just down the street, the Smithsonian has a research center studying local plants and animals, which offers tours on Thursdays. This is an ideal spot for any couple and any style of vacation, lazy or active. The Villa is always kept immaculate, and the privacy and your own pool is such a treat. I highly recommend Villa Paraiso - except on dates when we are trying to get it for ourselves.

My husband and I spent five nights here on a trip to Panama celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. I was originally looking for a hotel or bed and breakfast but couldn't find anything that appealed to me. I knew this was the place for us when I looked through the Vrbo website. All our expectations were meant and after seeing Bocastown I was satisfied I made the right choice. We felt safer in Bocas than most of the other places in the world I have been. The setting was peaceful and yet all the conveniences of town were easy to access - it was only a $1 to $1.50 each taxi ride or a 10 minute bike ride. This suite is the main floor of angie and Steve's family residence - totally private and quiet but they were both available at any time to give assistance. The suite is very clean and well maintained. They were the perfect hosts! The local cell phone programmed with numbers we would need as well as the bikes were a real treat. Others might be more interested in some of the other toys such as snorkeling gear. We used the bikes to explore the beautiful and almost deserted beaches in the area. We did the free and very infomative tour of the nearby Smithsonian. We had every intention of checking out as many of the wonderful restaurants in town but after our first night at Guari Guari spent most of our time there. Definitely make reservations at this place as soon as possible. For $19 you get four wonderful small appetizers, a main course and desssert. This is one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative. We would definitely visit again and may do so. We don't usually visit the same area twice - too many other places in the world to visit - but I do have a feeling that this is only our first trip to Panama of many.

We as many others before us, enjoyed our stay at Villa Paraiso. Angie is a wonderful hostess. We found their tips and those of other visitors very helpful! Here is what we recommend: Stay as long as you can or come back when you get a chance- Bocas has a lot of offer!! If you arrive on the early flight from albrook, come prepared for the beach (you may be able to leave your bags with angie and Steve) because the villa is not ready until the afternoon. Go to Zapatilla Islands and Coral Cay- most amazing colored reef. Go to Red Frog Beach and Dolphin Bay - you will never see more dolphins in a single spot. The earlier you go the better! Consider hiring a local to do these tours. We did a tour with Jampan, which is owned by a Canadian, and one with a local guide (Basi) and he was awesome! While we had a good experience with both, we encourage you to hire a local to support their livelihood. Make reservations at Guari Guari as soon as possible, both locals and foreigners recommend it! Go to Playa Tortuga for the drinks but not the food. Take a water taxi to Bastimentos to eat at Roots or Sonrisa del Mar for island food. Ask for the whole fish or Mixto (mix of seafood). Eat at Rincon del Sabor for local and cheap food, $10 for two including drinks and tip, you can't beat that! Have an icy cold beer and enjoy the sea breeze at the Reef. Take a break and relax on one of the benches in the park downtown. Relax and enjoy! Chris and Carla, San Francisco, Ca P.S. We were engaged here!

We stayed at three different places during our time in Bocas del Toro. Of the three, Villa Paraiso provided the most familiar experience in a decidedly unfamiliar place. The whole building was built by the owners, who had been high-end custom home builders in the us. The result is one of the nicest looking homes in Bocas. Everything appeared well maintained and we found the room to be very comfortable and well laid out. The rental is located a little bit out of town, but not too far out that hailing a cab would be a problem. While it is located near the biggest resort on Isla Colon, you are still separated from it by plenty of plants and trees. As a result, things were always very quiet in the room, and outside the most notable noise was the sound of monkeys in the jungle across the road. The service was excellent. Villa Paraiso is owned by a family, and all of them work to contribute to the overall experience. The breakfast that is provided on the first day was excellent: fruit, homemade yogurt, and banana pancakes. We ate with the family and enjoyed the wonderful view from the upper level. Overall, it was the most Us-like experience we had while in Panama. The hot water and the electricity were available 24 hours a day, and there was an air conditioner in the unit. Outside the room, an abundance of flora and fauna awaited. Just a couple of notes. The unit uses an instant hot water heater, so be sure to have them explain how it works when you check in for best results. Additionally, checkout time caught us by surprise on the last day; be aware that it may be earlier than you are used to. Overall, Villa Paraiso gives you the chance to experience the wonder of creation that is the Bocas del Toro area, while not having to deal with the differences between Panama and your home 24/7. The whole family really contributes to the enjoyment of your stay, as any of them (including all three boys) were willing to help out where needed. We wholeheartedly recommend them.

Villa Paraiso is hands down the best place we have ever stayed! It turned our 7 yr anniversary into a dream vacation! Before booking I emailed angie and Steve with many questions to make sure I wouldn't be disappointed and to learn more about the area and the things to do. Angie promptly emailed me back with the answers to all my questions. You have your own villa set in a beautiful tropical location that has no neighbors on either side. This is perfect for the couple that wants to relax and have the beach to themselves. Open the front doors of your villa and walk straight to the saltwater pool. You'll probably rarely use this as 5 more steps away you are on your own private beach. This beach is the only real swim-able beach that we found although there are many diverse beaches within walking and bicycling distances. You're just a short distance away from a nice surfing beach and beaches that have more fish. There is a folder with recommendations for anything you would like to do while you're there. We went to Red Frog Beach and Dolphin Bay, which included snorkeling. We also took a $5 round-trip bus to Bocas del Drago with a short walk to Starfish beach. There were starfish everywhere! You can take a boat trip back for $1.50 or take the walk along the beach/jungle and see howler monkeys!!! We were able to see these by ourselves and were able to get close enough to take pictures and video of a family of around 10. That was one of the best experiences I had. If you're looking for night life, it's a short 20 min walk into town where you can eat at many diverse restaurants and visit discotechs later in the evening. It's also reachable by a $2 taxi ride. Steve and angie provide you with a cell phone that you can use to call taxis and many other useful people. We stayed in one night and had a local, Chris, cook an enticing dinner for us. He is also one of the people you can find on the cell phone provided. The Villa Paraiso is a dream vacation! ♥

We, Leonilde and Robert, a couple from Colombia and Holland were very lucky that another couple had cancelled their trip Bocas and we could stay in Villa Paraiso. We stayed there from 11 untill 14 of May, so only three days. Too short but we had no other option ! Those days, what a pity that it rained a lot, we had the feeling we were living in Paradise with our own pool, beach before the house, bicycles etcetera. Angie and Steve are the best hosts you can find on the island and their breakfast is finger licking ! They gave us the best tips what to do in this short rainy period .We went to several beaches and had dinner at the best restaurants that were really cheap !!! If anyone wants to get away to Bocas del Toro and enjoy stunning beauty, privacy and fun, then Bocas Villa Paraiso is the place to go. My wife and I were there an had a wonderful time there. The facilities, and the view were spectacular ....right on a beautiful beach, and all to yourself. You also have your own amazing private outdoor pool all to yourself. The room was top notch just like as if you were in a 5 star hotel. Stunning place in all. Would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Bocas and Isla Colon. Only a few minutes in to town on bicycle which were available as well and we enjoyed going into town almost every day. Close by other beaches and restaurants as well on bike. Would recommend Carolina restaurant and having lunch with a stunning view. So much to do there. Would definitely go back in a heartbeat. Thanks so much to Angie and Steve for providing us such a great relaxing vacation while in Panama.

My wife and I stayed for just a few days, but it was perfect. We enjoyed it very much. Quiet, very comfortable, a pool right at your door steps. The house and apartment right next to the beach, surrounded by a lovely Palm plantation. No neighbors, only the owners up-stairs (You will not see them nor hear them if you want to be by yourselves), but who will atent to your needs when asked. The house and apartment are in top shape, excellent attention by the owners as well (with some personal touch we liked very much). Isla Colon is still one of the few places left where you can see the old-style Caribbean easy-going pace. Carribean English-speaking natives, mixed with an Indian population that speak the Guaymi language, and mingled together with Spanish; it's just beautiful way to disconnect from everyday pressure back home and flow with the easy pace of the Carribean way of life. This is a place we will come back to any time.

The host speaks fluent English and Spanish. Treated us like we were family. They have an excellent knowledge of the Islands. They love the local people and treat them with respect and dignity. This gave us an edge, for the local people that knew them treated us better. Our room is on the ground floor and faced the pool and ocean. Full kitchen. Beach is sandy and clean. Ocean is clear and fun to play in. Have been in other locations on the Island but none as good as this. we were asked to mention what we liked least. We thought about this, but found nothing. What is best is the location, it is perfect.

Steve and Angie were the perfect hosts and made me very welcome, nothing was too much trouble for them. The time I spent at Villa Paraiso left me feeling as though I had spent months there, fully rejuvenated and ready to face reality back home. Away from all the hustle and bustle I would awake each morning to the sound of birds whistling their tunes and waves gently lapping against the mostly deserted beach only a few yards away. It was those very same waves that would send me to sleep every night after each relaxing day. Villa Paraiso is situated in a lovely location amongst the palm trees. The clean, modern studio apartment had everything I needed. Just outside the door I would sit, enjoying each morning and evening. Being able to walk into the beautiful swimming pool, enjoy a swim first thing in the morning was certainly a luxury that I didn't have back home, something which I would take advantage of throughout the days and evenings during my stay. A walk into town would bring you to restaurants, shops, diving facilities, etc. As for me, all I want to do here is enjoy the beauty and serenity of this jewel. If you are looking for a place to totally relax and unwind, away from noise, pollution and all the other things we don't enjoy in the city, then you have found it here. When you leave, you will leave with a thousand memories. Thank you Steve and Angie

We have just returned from a week in Bocas at Villa Paraiso. The Villa was everything the VRBO ad promised and more! This lovely home is right on the beach with a beautiful refershing pool, air conditioning, relaxing outdoor lanai and quick ride to town. The Villa is beautifully decorated with local art and furnishings and spotlessly clean. But what we most enjoyed was the personal attention by Steve and Angie full of ideas for things to do, places to eat and other local information. A lovely gourmet breakfast awaited on our first day. We felt safe and cared for by our gracious hosts and highly recommend this Villa to anyone visiting Bocas. Don't miss out on the most amazing 6 course dinner in Panama at Guari Guari, diving with the very professional Scubafleet and snorkeling with JanPam Tours. We loved Bocas and Villa Paraiso and will definately return!

My husband and I enjoyed Villa Paraiso very much. Our favorites by Villa Pariso; greeted by Steve at the airport, who then gave us a tour of the town, banana bread, beach cruisers, information about Bocas provided by guests of Villa Paraiso, and of course the friendly family up stairs. Location was good. Out of town by an easy taxi or bike ride away. I don't have much to recommend(other then reflectors on the beach cruisers) because it was a good place to stay.

The stay with Steve and Angie was auwsome! The accomidations were first class, this had to have been the nicest, cleanest, best laid out rental we have ever been in. Very private and secure. Great ocean view during the day and the stars at night. In out week on touring Bocus, we did not see better accomodations than our stay than with Steve and Angie. Great folks and very helpful with local information on what to do in the area and best providers to do them with. I am trying to think of any negitives to pass on, but really we were quite happy with our stay. I highly recommend staying there.

My wife and I just had an absolutely outstanding time at this exquisite Beachfront suite. The listing is very accurate as described and even way better than what you could see in the picture with a very clean and well maintained atmosphere. The owners were very kind, friendly and very hospitable. We will never forget this vacation and whatelse could you ask for; roll out of bed right into the pool and then roll out of the pool down the stairs and right on the beach as you roll into the water. What a blast. I would very highly recommend this hotspot to all my friends and relatives as soon as possible.

We would highly recommend Villa Paraiso to all! There is something for everyone at the Bocas. The pictures of Villa Paraiso truly represent this beautiful unique property on the ocean. The suite is extremely clean and promotes an atmosphere of peace and relaxation. The pool , the deck and the sitting area are equally well maintained and clean. We especially enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets over the ocean that we could view right outside our door.( it just doesn't get much better than that!!!!!) The Cotrells are wonderful hosts that are always willing answer questions and to share their knowledge of the Bocas. There are plenty of good restaurants close by. Traveling by taxi was efficient and low cost. This made it easy to get to wherever we wanted to go. We would definitely recommend Villa Paraiso to friends, relatives and absolutely everyone looking to have an awesome time at the Bocas. Vicki and Brad Webster- Wisconsin, USA"

You would be hard pressed to find better hosts than Steve and Angie. They know the area well and are a font of knowledge about the local area; nothing is too much trouble and they have lots of helpful tips and advice. The suite is well appointed with lots of neat touches like locally hand crafted furniture and exotic fresh flowers artfully arranged by their youngest son. The pool is handy for cooling off on hot days and the lanai is a great place to shelter from the sun, or the occasional tropical shower. The house is situated about 5 minutes from town by taxi and is an easy bike ride. The cell phone which comes with the suite is a nice touch and gives a degree of independence. It is also handy for tour companies to reach you or to check on schedules. There is lots to do around Isla Colon and the surrounding islands and Steve and Angie are more than happy to recommend places to see or things to do. It is impossible not to mention Angie's chocolate volcano cake, arguably the best in Central America. For me, the location of Villa Paraiso is ideal; close enough to town to make it easily accessible and far enough out to make it tranquil and relaxing. Combine that with great hosts and you have your own little slice of paradise.

When I arrived to Steve and Angie's Villa Paraiso I was tired from the long bus/taxi/boat rides and was ready to crash, so being shown to my very own luxury apartment with huge fluffy bed and beatiful shower was just what I needed to rest and relax. With the beach being a stones throw away the sounds of the waves lapping onto the shore and easy access to the beach provided the perfect setting for walks and reading in the carribean sun. Angie and Steve made me feel very comfortable and I had plenty of privacy, very lovely guests. I would love to be there again right now if I could. Thanks for everything!

I enjoyed the use of the pool for those nights that I didn't want to be bothered with the sand. Although being right on the beach itself allowed for the waves to lull me to sleep at night! Then only to wake up to the view of the sunrise on the ocean as I listened to the singing of the birds in the nearby trees. I liked being able to bike to the beach and see the howler monkeys. This was truly a vaction in Paradise!

The location could not be better. Regarding the amenities, the room had everything we needed, quality furniture, hot water, A.C., swiming pool, ect. What I like best were the night in this place, they were so romantic. Stars in the sky, town light in the background, the sound of the waves made it a dream stay. Don't stay in TOWN-NO SLEEP-MUCH NOISE!!! It is close enough yet just far enough to be a quiet peaceful vacation. You can swim on the beach or take some amazing walks. The views are amazing, and there are four restaurants in walking distance. I would recommend this place to my Mother, Oh wait I did and she loved it too! The family is very nice with there Midwest accents and well behaved children. The room is very clean and comfortable. Well decorated and arranged. It feels very charming and tropical. The room is very spacious and up do date. It's more like a small apartment. We loved the view of the ocean from our room and the pool and outside sitting area are relaxing. To get to town is a short taxi or bike ride. We would definitely recommend staying here. You will not regret it!

From the moment we arrived it was obvious Villa Parasio was the perfect place for us. The suite in the main house is tastefully decorated, fully equipped and extremely clean and well maintained. The covered veranda, with comfortable furnishings, is the perfect place to relax while enjoying views of the pool, beach and turquoise water beyond. We enjoyed the beautiful and refreshing pool every day and evening! The grounds and gardens are maintained as an exquisite estate and the beautiful beach is literally just steps away. Steve gave us a thorough introduction to the Villa, answered all of our questions and made some great recommendations. Throughout our stay Angie made sure we had everything we needed. Villa Paraiso is a family affair with their three sons (Connor, Wes and Riese) involved in making their guests' stay a memorable one and we enjoyed learning about their Bocas experience. We enjoyed the cooking of Chef Wes for several breakfasts and a wonderful dinner all served on the veranda. They are there if you need them but respect your privacy otherwise. The Villa is in a perfect and very private location. All of the activities and nightlife of Bocas Town are just a short drive away. It serves as a great base to explore Isla Colon and all of the surrounding Islands. Villa Paraiso and the Cottrell family made our trip a great one! We highly recommend!

Wow. Just so amazing. We had the best time. We did all the great adventure trips around the Bocas Islands and felt home in this lovely house. Everyday we played a little ping pong at the appartement and swam in the beautiful pool. The Owners Boy's were really helpful and kind! Unfortunatly we didn't have the time to use the kayaks but we loved to cruize around the island with the two bikes we received from the owners. It was absolute paradise! Thanks a lot for this! ps. for everyone who thinks colon is just a party island - in Villa Paraiso you don't feel any of the town's nightlife just if you want, you can take a little bike ride into town, which is really refreshing and have a drink or two or three :-)

We rented the villa for three weeks and loved the accommodations. The best part was the huge covered lanai which we utilized every day; a great escape from the frequent downpours. The villa is exactly as seen in the property's photos. We had the sole use of a fantastic salt water pool, which was appreciated after the frequent walks and bike rides. The use of the provided cellphone was much needed and appreciated. Howler monkeys blessed us with their presence on some days. It is about a 15 minute ride to downtown by the bikes provided and about a 40 minute walk. Taxis are abundant and the usual fare is $4 per ride for two persons.

We stayed in both places at Villa Paraiso, so I'll review both. In general - The pool was fabulous and the beach had nice sand. You couldn't walk far, but you could swim. - The location is excellent - $2/p taxi to town - for dinner and other adventures. - They left a book with good tips on things to do, along with a local cell phone, pre-programmed wtih contact info. - The bicycles were OK - typical for the island. - Las Casitas are (2) one bedroom buildings with a private pool and outdoor kitchen. It would be fine for 4 people (we were 3 adults). They are about 2 years old and well appointed. The refrigerator and appliances are in each of the little casitas, so you have to haul your food and toaster and coffee pot to the outdoor cooking area, and cooking space is tiny -- suited to light meals. We could do breakfast but wouldn't advise dinner. They have a cook who will bring dinner, which is supposed to be fabulous. - Villa Wiona is a 1 BR suite in the lower level of the family's main house. It is definitely older (maybe 10 years?). This place allows you use of a covered veranda which has a table for 6, a ping pong table and seating area and access to the family's larger pool. It is definitely a better place if the weather is rainy because the Casitas can be a bit claustrophobic. Again cooking a real meal would be challenging - but this is an indoor kitchen in the studio/bedroom. Bottom line: while not perfect, this is one of the best places in Bocas, given beach, pool, air conditioning and proximity. Other guests commented on the hospitality of the owners, but we didn't see them much. We were pretty much on our own.

We stayed in both villas for 11 days. We enjoyed everything the villas had to offer. We took full advantage of the pool and beach area as well as used the outside kitchen area daily to make meals. The grounds are very well kept and has a great jungle on the beach feel with the safety of a well put together compound. Steve and his family were so very nice and great to talk to while they ran and played with there dog (Shotzi) on the beach daily. If you need a boat adventure contact there son Wes. He is a great boat captain and speaks Spanish and English and is well respected anywhere he takes you. His boat is on a dock just 40 yards from the villas.

We stayed in Villa Wiona for 5 nights in March 2016. This has to be the best place to stay in Bocas. It's a short taxi ride from town, so nice and quiet and located on a private beach. The owners live above the unit and were just great in looking after us making sure we had everything we needed but not intrusive at all. The villa is very private and has its own private pool. We loved it here. Highly recommended by Oldbackpack.

Meeting the whole family including Schatzie, the Cottrells have raised nice boys. Relaxing in the amazing pool. Some tips: Get reservations for zip lining. They were booked when we wanted to go. If you are planning a visit to Boca del Toro and are looking for the perfect place this is it! We are experienced travelers and always have that "I am not sure if we picked the right place" before we arrive. Forget it!!! This place is the best. We were getting married in Boca but had no idea where to stay, Still not sure if Steve and Angie were ready for hosting the best wedding ever, but our whole group had a blast. We took advantage of all the great opportunities available. Every request or question we had was responded to immediately. By the way Chef Chris was a life savor. He was on the main land and took a plane back to Boca because he heard we were in need of some special help. Steve made it happen. The casitas provide a great spot to get away from the fray in Bocas town but still only a few minutes away. The beach was great and the pool was a life savor. When we return to Boca del Toro we will be staying here if Steve and Angie will have us!!!!!

The beach casitas were perfect for 2 couples as both casitas were mirror images of each other. The outside kitchen was handy and we spent a lot of time at the table there, however don't expect to be a gourmet chef as the facilities are limited. The property is a quick ride into town. $2pp for a taxi. I would suggest a golf cart or rental to explore the rest of the island as we didn't get to see much beyond. Private pool was a lot of fun. Security features are great and certainly felt safe on the property. Private beach was a big bonus for a quiet morning walk.

We stayed in the Villa Wiona suite and all in all, I'm very glad I found Angie's listing on TripAdvisor. Her home is beautiful! You can really see how much detail she and her husband Steve have put into every aspect of the house and grounds. The suite is very nicely appointed with a comfortable queen bed, plenty of storage space, and a spacious kitchen & sitting area. The property is located steps from a beautiful beach ideal for swimming, kayaking or just enjoying a little R&R. The most noteworthy aspect of Villa Paraiso though is Angie and Steve's hospitality. From their eagerness to accommodate any request to their personal recommendations on everything from great boating & ATV trips to different beaches around the island to local restaurants, Angie and Steve definitely go above and beyond to make your stay a memorable one! We will definitely be back to Villa Paraiso when we return to Bocas del Toro!

Arrived in Bocas town on Saturday (late Sept) of the annual Feria del Mar- a large fair on the beach that brings in a lot of Panamanians and also shuts down a lot of gringo-owned establishments. This made our experience a little complicated. We had a hard time getting a taxi to Villa Paraiso but once we did, they knew exactly where to take us. (Right past Playa Tortuga resort before Big Creek on the right side) it was a shared ride part of the way, like uber pool, $2 pp. Owner Steve was very welcoming when we arrived and showed us through the garage, to our room on the main floor of the main house. We had a nice studio with the entire veranda and pool to ourselves, right on the ocean. The room was big, comfortable and had most of the staples included- towels, toilet paper, dishes, cookware, coffee and even some salt/pepper/spices. Our first plan was to rent a quad from Flying Pirates (15 min walk down the road) as our mode of transportation for the next 5 days. Just so happens they shut down due to the fair. Lucky for us Pirate Steve opened up just for us the get setup on a quad . Props to Flying Pirates!! This was a lifesaver as the taxis were really tough to get and the weather wasn't cooperating for the pool or beach. We took the quad to Starfish beach on Sunday and it was jam packed.(recommend going on a week day) The hike from the Bocas del drago was more rough than we expected and the only starfish we saw was one a boy caught. They go out to the deep water when the people come in. We took the $1.50/pp boat ride back to Boca del drago. Monday a squall came in the the morning and it pretty much rained all day. We took the quad to la piscina on the flying pirates private trails. It was a very rough, wet and dirty ride. Lots of mud puddles, rough terrain, large roots, and tight passages. If you are an adventure seeker, this is for you! Tuesday we took a private tour with Wes, right from the Villa Paraiso dock. We saw sloths at sloth island, did some great snorkeling, had fresh seafood for lunch, and hiked Zapatillas II to find a picturesque beach at the point. On the the return we found a foursome of dolphins that we got very close to and Wes even got the dolphins to play in his wake- an unforgettable day! Wednesday made it all the way to Christian's Beach- quite the adventure! Not for the faint of heart. Sunny and beautiful on the way out. Raining, thunder and lightening all the way back. Did a couple dinners in town-Om for Indian- pretty good but pricey. Captain Caribe- delicious and well worth it! Had a lunch at The Pub- decent sandwiches but not cheap. Couldn't go to El Ultimo Refugio or Guari Guari because they both shut down due to the fair. Ordered two dinners from Chef Chris (ph # in Villa Paraiso info book) which were our favorite of all! Shopped in town for yogurt, cereal, (Isla Colon) fruit, (Chinese S/M) and sandwich fixings (Super Gourmet). The phone provided in the room was almost a necessity but another stop to get a phone card to load it up. Recommend downloading WhatsApp before you go and using that. Steve and Angie were very accommodating when we needed anything. We did some laundry which was great but beware the water isn't always clear for doing whites. Had great hosts and our own space when desired.

The location is exquisite right on the beach with a well maintained tropical garden on the sides of the house and a huge terrace with a pool in front of the studio. We are on day 4 of our much anticipated 10 day trip to Bocas. Villa Paraiso is the perfect stay for my husband and I. Our little Villa has a beautiful view and sounds of the Sea, clean, comfortable, easy access to Bocas town. The owners are very hospitable, eager to answer any questions and have great tips/suggestions to help make your trip a memorable one! They are the sweetest family. We took a boat tour with their son, Wes, yesterday. What an awesome day! We visited several islands, ate at a local restaurant on the dock, snorkeled, and even fished. We were out from 10am until a little after 6pm. It was a gorgeous day filled with laughs, fun and adventure! We can't wait to see what else we can get ourselves into... cheers to a perfect vaca!

Hospitality and a great location - definitely highly recommended. My husband and I travel to somewhere warm every year. Research for this year's trip brought us to Bocas. Upon arrival, we were cheerfully welcomed by one of the Cottrells. The very first thing of note was the ocean breeze, the private pool outside our villa and short walk to the beach (beach is within 10 yards). The owner provided information about the room and amenities and the use of a cell phone to help with calls for taxis and local attractions. We also received a set of pamphlets letting us know about restaurants, local attractions and more. During our entire stay, the owners went out of their way to make sure that, during our week at their villa, we did not lack for anything. Our villa was cozy with a combined bedroom/kitchen area. Storage is plentiful - even for those who tend to over pack. The veranda was about the best we have seen and included cushioned chaise and chairs. Perfect setup for relaxing next to the pool while listening to the sounds of the ocean, just a few feet away. One of our favorite day trips so far was our day with Wes on his boat. While specific tours are available, Wes gave us the flexibility to make our tour our own with a choice of swimming, snorkeling, fishing, etc. To top off the day, we even stopped for a lunch of local fare along the way. You should definitely talk to Wes about your favorite water activities to create your own personal water tour. There's a lot to do in Bocas; more than can be done in just one short week - I would recommend a week or two, or three... We would like to thank the Cottrells for making this a week to remember!

We found this place on VRBO after becoming interested in Bocas del Toro via a TV show. We thought it looked pretty good on the site and were shocked to find that it is even nicer when one gets there. The Cottrell family is welcoming and helpful and also respectful of guests' privacy. When Angie found out I had a heat rash, she came down with an ointment to get me through until we could go to the drug store. The house is within walking distance to many features and bikes are provided to go downtown (about 20 minutes). A phone is provided with taxi and other important numbers already in the directory. Taxi is all of $2 per person to go downtown or to the airport. We recommend you try several boat rides ... and the best tip we can provide is that the middle Cottrell son Wes runs a private boat service and he can customize any kind of trip you like. It's much MUCH better than going out with the tour groups that cram 12-15 people in a small boat. Other tips: Even at ages 70-65, my wife and I enjoyed the ATV trails at Flying Pirates. As far as restaurants go, we loved Refugio (at the far end of town, around the corner from the gourmet market). The chef was from our hometown of Seattle. Also, don't miss the botanical garden which is just a few minutes walk toward town from Villa Parasol ... tours are Monday and Friday and more elaborate experiences are Tue and Thur. Enjoy your stay ... you will not be sorry you rented with this lovely family

Located just past Playa Tortuga Hotel, This Gated property is nicely landscaped and has a fence surrounding the property. We stayed in one of two nicely appointed rooms that share a pool and nice outdoor kitchen facilities. The pool is great after a day of exploring, and the room has a coffee maker refrige and microwave. overall very nice, The only things that were not great were no TV, (only a few DVDs and the WI FI was slow or non existant, overall Villa Parisio is very good and I would stay again.

What a great stay! If you want total relaxation in a stunning setting, then Village Paraiso is the place! We visited in March after a lot of travelling in Argentina and Panama and this was the chill out bit of the holiday before returning to England. We couldn't have chosen a better place to relax! Private pool, stunning private beach literally just a step from the gate, and comfortable accommodation - perfect paradise! Loved relaxing in the outside living area and pool watching the bird and animal life in the surrounding jungle. Unfortunately we weren't able to get out on the boat with Wes due to high seas but the beautiful surroundings more than made up for this, and the Cottrells were more than helpful. The villa is a short hop by taxi or bike into Bocas town where you can chill out with a cocktail in a waterside restaurant sampling fantastic fresh seafood. Highly recommended!

We just came back from a week at Villa Paraiso. It was heavenly! The Villa was very comfortable The air conditioning worked great! The view was spectacular. We did two boat trips with Wes that were fantastic. We saw so many sloths and starfish! He knows how to avoid the crowds to make your trip special. The Cotrell family made you feel so welcome. We will definitely be back!

A rare find!!! I loved it here. I truly felt like Villa Wynona was my own exclusive villa with full-sized pool right on the beach. I never believed I could afford something like this. It was so private and quiet, I stayed for almost 2 weeks. The gardens, birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds were beautiful. The chanting of the howler monkeys in the distance and the quiet roll of the ocean peaceful. Under-the-stars dips in the pool before bed each night added to the dreamlike environment. All this, and it’s in a practical and convenient location. I am a woman and traveled on my own. I felt safe at all times. It was easy to get into town I just walked out to the road and flagged a taxi $2 each way – easy/safe/fast, town is just a short distance away. There’s a lot to do on the islands, with many good restaurants. I chose a quiet holiday and spent most of my time at my villa relaxing. The large covered outdoor living area was spacious, comfortable, and cool. The bedroom was also comfortable and had air-conditioning. There was a large smart TV for entertainment if you wanted, I rarely felt the need. I cooked up some great meals. A nice convenience was the delivery service - ‘BocasTakeOut.com’ - the site has numerous restaurants to order from for delivery to the villa. It was reasonable and easy, I just ordered and paid online, I picked the ‘Cosmic Crab’, great food, not fast food. I even ordered wine. Pleasant to have a nice restaurant meal at home overlooking my pool and ocean. I also found out that I could call the ‘Supper Gourmet’ put in a full order and have it delivered. This is a deli and grocery store, that has organic fruit and veg and many items for special diets. I didn’t use the delivery service, I just went there by cab. I also got groceries at Tony’s it’s just a bike ride away and it has everything. Had a private day tour on the boat with Wes – enjoyable – went snorkeling at Cayos Zapatilla – good time. The Cottrell’s were always available and friendly if I needed help or information, but most of the time I rarely saw them or heard them, thus the private, quiet, feel. Villa Wynona’s large accommodation sleeps 2 people (queen bed). The Cottrell’s also have ‘Villa Paraiso Casitas’ next door that accommodate 6 people. It is completely separate with its own pool. I thought it would be a great option to book both properties for a trip with my extended-family. FYI - I never heard the people staying in the Casitas - not a remark on my extended family :) I highly recommend Villa Wynona, I’ll be back, for a longer stay.

I cannot begin to explain what an incredible experience it was to stay at Villa Paraiso. My wife and I spent 8 days in Bocas for our Honeymoon and cannot wait to go back. Willa Wiona was the perfect secluded little getaway experience we were hoping for. It was private and seclusive with out own pool and beach area. The Cottrell's really made the entire experience for us. They were so helpful when we needed them for recommendations and directions. We genuinely felt like we were staying with family, but when we weren't asking for questions they let us have our privacy. The property felt very safe and was extremely well kept. We can't thank them enough for such a great experience that we will never forget.

Just returned from a vacation with my wife in Bocas Del Toro/Isla Colon and we stayed at Villa Paraiso. Just as the name translates to "Paradise Villa". This place is paradise! Steve, Angie and their sons go out of their way to make your stay at their place fantastic. They have several amenities at no cost that others don't offer. The pool was great after a long day of riding bikes or walking in to town. If you are planning a trip to this area give some consideration to Villa Paraiso we completely enjoyed our stay.

My wife and I travel alot. We came to Panama for a five week vacation and rented a house in Altos del Maria for that period of time. However, gypsies at heart,we decided to visit Farallon, Boquete and Bocas del Toro to get to know more of this extraordinary country. We appreciate boutique style rentals whether hotel, bed and breakfast or private guest houses. We look for properties that are well-maintained, well-managed and which offer additional value-added services to their guests. Additionally, we require secure properties where we and our personal property are not at risk. We stayed at Villa Winona, the poolside guesthouse of Villa Paraiso's Main Villa. This rental is ideal for couples and provides everything most couples could ever want including two kayaks, matching his and hers bikes and your very own boat and boat captain available at the beachfront dock 50 meters away. We went out and enjoyed some of Bocas' finest restaurants but were offered excellent local catering services with delivery to our Villa. This property is better than its photos and website suggest and is very secure. It is truly postcard perfect and offered a respite from the hustle and bustle of our workaday world. The sun rises are spectacular, the island pace intoxicating and sleeping in that bed was an elixir for harried minds and tired bodies. In three days we never used the air conditioner even once as the ceiling fans provided all the cooling necessary. It's hard not to go on about the property and its owners. Steve, his wife Angie and now their sons personally manage the property and it's obviously their labor of love. Everything is meticulously maintained and we felt comfortable at all times. The bed, towels and linens were of noteworthy quality and although the Main Villa is Steve and Angie's home, we never saw them during our stay and the entire covered porch, recreational area, pool and beach were exclusively ours. We were impressed with the property, its amenities and administration. We will definitely visit again and will highly recommend it to others.

Thank you so much to Angie and Steve and their boys. The Experience here at their wonderful bed and breakfast has been peaceful, adventurous, relaxing, and stimulating all at the same time. They have been very accommodating and resourceful with there network of reliable people and the with the use of the facilities including the pool and the bikes that have allowed us to have a full and diverse experience , not to mention the fabulous boat tour that Wesley (their son) had taken us out on to check out some of the other beaches and Islands. It has been a clean safe and wonderful experience. We will stay here the next time we come back for sure! Krisstael and Gabriel

The villa with private pool is very luxurious and just steps from the beach. The Cottrell family go above and beyond to make your stay very special. Angie made us brownies and banana bread that was amazing! During our stay we had a pet emergency back home and ended up having to put our dog asleep. We were very upset about this, but the family was there for us offering hugs and condolences. A must do when staying here is to take boat trips with Wesley. They are so much fun and you come back with an experience you will treasure for a lifetime! Anytime we had a question about where to eat, what to do Angie & Steve would give us very valuable recommendations. They have bikes and kayaks that you can use and taxis come by very frequently for trips into town. Look no more for a place to stay....you will come here as visitors, but leave as friends!

This family-run villa on Isla Colon is the perfect getaway for couples looking for a quieter alternative away from the hustle of Bocas town. Located only 3 km from the central tourist area in Bocas town, you can easily walk, bike or taxi ($4) into town in no time at all. The Cottrell family (Steve, Angie, Connor, Reise, and Wes) who own the property are the nicest hosts and are very responsive to your needs. What we loved here: -big, private pool with lounge chairs -large covered outdoor living space including solid wood dining table/chairs, sitting area with comfy furniture, awesome ping pong table, and barbecue -beautiful, immaculately kept gardens surrounding the villa with many cool birds that visited daily -listening to the waves at night -bikes and kayaks provided free of charge -boat tours arranged with Wes, which left directly from the beach out front. No going to town and hunting down tour operators. Wes bent over backwards to position his boat under a sloth on sloth island and then climbed up into the tree to get us a great photo. He is awesome! -high speed internet that was 100% reliable - a rare find on vacation; also Netflix! -a new air conditioning unit that was super quiet and worked perfectly -quiet beach, with beautiful, wooden Adirondack chairs just for us to enjoy the view -homemade banana bread delivered one morning with a sweet note attached -most of all, the Cottrell family themselves. We will miss them! What we didn't like: -LEAVING! :( Highly recommended for the traveler who seeks a quiet vacation spot, and wants the option to prepare food at home.

Villa Paraiso is a wonderful spot to get away or to step off to explore what Bocas has to offer. It is close to town, but not too close so it is private and secluded. The room was very comfortable, well appointed and immaculately clean. The “living room” and “dining area” are outside well covered under the porch adjacent to the room. They overlook the pool and the ocean. Perfect spot for coffee at sunrise. Angie and Steve were gracious hosts and very helpful to us as first timers. As of 1/31/18 it was a $2 per person can ride to town and you can hail one from roadside. The longest we waited was maybe 10 minutes. I would highly recommend renting a quad. It gives you the freedom to explore the more remote parts of the island such as starfish beach and playa bluff. The easiest place to rent one is at Skully’s (Flying Pirates) less than a mile from Villa Paraiso. Overall it was an outstanding trip and we would definitely go back to Villa Paraiso. Thank you Angie, Steve, Connor, Wes and Reese!

My husband and I are So happy with our stay here, we truly couldn’t have asked for a better set up. We had total privacy yet the recommendations and suggestions from a wonderful family right at our fingertips! Best of both worlds! The amenities that Villa paraiso offers are better than all inclusive hotels! Bikes, private pool, kayaks, ping pong tables, games, books, beach front access, etc, life is good when you are staying here. I gotta also say that I was so impressed by the cleanliness of the room that I didn’t feel the need to break out the Clorox wipes I have learned to travel with. First time ever so that says a lot in my books! On another note please go on a boat trip with Wesley. If you don’t you will never know what you’ve missed but trust me when I say you will be doing yourself a great disservice if you don’t jump on the opportunity to do so! He’s absolutely great and so are the islands around here.

We had eight fabulous days at Villa Paraíso in Bocas. The location for us was perfect, on a quiet beach and dock with easy access to town (especially with the complimentary use of the beach cruisers). We also enjoyed our lazy afternoons by our private pool. The entire Cottrell family is extremely friendly and helpful, while also allowing us to enjoy our time in the island. Steve and Angie were helpful, eagerly providing us with lots of tips and information on places to go to eat (OM, Skully’s, the Casbah, El Ultimo Refugio, CIAO pizza and Island Plantation) and things to do (the Flying Pirates ATV tour). Access to high speed Internet and Nexflix were a plus at night, something not guaranteed in places like Bocas. Angie left us a sweet treat - some delicious brownies that hit the spot and even went the extra mile to bring a kindle to the airport that was left behind. Don’t miss out on Captain Wes’ tour services – cave adventure and trip to Zapatilla – both unique experiences with an awesome guide. Wes is super engaging and fun to talk with, we couldn’t imagine doing those tours with anyone else. He also made some great recommendation on restaurants – Azul is a MUST! We will undoubtedly return to Bocas Del Toro and will stay at Villa Paraíso again (and bring lots of friends)! It’s is special place, not to be missed!

We stayed in the villa adjacent to the main house for five nights of our honeymoon getaway, and it was absolutely perfect. We had our own pool for cooling off and taking a break from the salt water, and the beach view to take in as we drank our coffee each morning and relaxed in the evenings. The hosts (all of them, the whole family, including their adorable dog) were amazing, sweet, nice, informative about places to eat and things to do - everything we could have wanted. We went on a boat ride with Wes and stopped at Starfish Island for lunch, and that was one of the most memorable parts of our whole trip in Panama! Wes is the best and the fresh live lobster and crab we picked out for lunch was out of this world. We were afraid that getting into town would be difficult and we would get bored, but it was SO easy to walk out front and hail a taxi for $3-4 and get right into town in minutes. I would definitely recommend Villa Paraiso. We checked out other accommodations we had considered booking and saw what else was available on the main island and we THANKED OUR LUCKY STARS that we had picked this place!!

My husband and I spent almost three weeks in Bocas. We cannot say enough nice things about our stay at Villa Wiona or about its wonderful hosts. From the moment we arrived to our flight out everything was perfect. The (amazing) hosts (and each of their family members) ensured that we had everything we needed and then some. They made a point to be available at a moment’s notice, while making sure that we had all the privacy we would want. Steve and Angie are full of great recommendations; take them! The room was meticulously cleaned and had great amenities. This included access to bikes, kayaks, snorkel equipment, laundry service, in room massage, and a personal chef. After traveling all over the islands of Bocas del Toro, I have no doubt that we picked the most perfect and most beautiful place to stay. If you stay anywhere else, you are doing it wrong! Thank you, thank you, thank you Angie, Steve, Connor, and Riese - and thank you for sharing your furry family with us!

We, as a group of 7 adults and a baby, booked both villas of the Connor family, Wiona and Casitas. They are both connected via beach and jungle path. The whole beach is privat, so enjoy it all by your own! The whole area, including a beatiful jungle garden, is well set up with lot of passion and love by its wonderful owner family. Be ready to have some monkeys climbing by and friendly humming birds, chicken, cats and the most wonderful dog "Schatzi" visiting you. Worth every penny, come see yourself!

Our stay at Villa Wiona was incredible - it is a beautiful, amazing villa, well situated on the island and well equipped. The pool and beach access are just as shown in the pictures, and more. The beach is literally 50 feet away, with no obstacles whatsoever. The hosts are kind, patient and friendly, and will help with anything you need. They provided bikes which were our main method of transportation, just 15 minutes to town or north to the closest beach. Bocas Del Toros itself is a breath taking place with so many things to do, that even a 10 day stay like ours could not cover. And the nice thing is, that by going to Villa Wiona you’re able to choose between staying at the comfort of the poolside, like a hotel vacation, or going out into one of the island adventures. It’s a tough choice - but that’s the only kind of choice that you want to be making in your vacation, and this is the place for it!

Villas Paraiso is a unique and beautiful property with a private pool and beautiful beach literally steps from your door. We stayed for two weeks and found that the setting is quiet, spacious and private but close enough to town by bike or taxi that you are still connected to Bocas Town. This truly beachfront property is very well maintained, both the villas and the beautiful jungle surrounding it. The hosts are extremely helpful and eager to do everything they can and more to make your stay at the villa perfect. They really seemed to care about our experience in Bocas as well and had plenty of good advice about how best to enjoy our time in the area. The temperature of the ocean was like bath water and it was calm and clear enough to swim every day. The location is ideal in that it is half way between the town and the surfing beaches and there are always taxis going by. It is directly on the main road but there is no traffic noise, and you feel like you are far away from it all. The amenities were great and we cooked our own breakfast and lunch most days. There is also a pretty restaurant over the water at the hotel Tortuga close by that you can walk to on the beach if you don’t want to go too far for a meal. There is plenty to see and do in the area but we had a hard time leaving this beautiful property.

I have returned to the beautiful Villa Wiona. Stayed for a month this time. So extraordinary! This is a place I just love to wake up to each day; the ocean, birdlife, an exquisite scent of the flora, private walks on the beach, and dips in my private pool. It never disappoints. A wonderful holiday! I included my extended family for one week, they stayed at ‘la casitas’ on the same property (family of four - children 8 and 11). It was a perfect setup. It gave us lots of time together each day, but also gave each of us private time. Special moments: dinners with my family at my large dinning table; ping pong with the kids; watching a synchronized swimming show choreographed and performed by the kids; private snorkeling tours; seeing the kids discover a sloth, multicoloured starfish, and finding a large pod of dolphins. I will be back. Previous review: A rare find… Sept 2017
